My children either want to be in front of a screen or out in the garden. I much prefer it when they are happy with the latter because I know that they are being active but it does mean that they are more likely to end up injuring themselves.
Whilst I am a big advocate of being active I know that my children can be very clumsy at the best of times. Only this weekend gone one of them bumped their head on a living room unit whilst another scraped their ankle on their bike. I know that these things do hurt and that the pain they feel is relative to them but we are seeing less tears and tantrums from these minor injurys as the children get older. I think this may be because when they were much little we were big believers of telling the children to get back up again when they fell over. With big bumps and grazes we did offer cuddles and support alongside the first aid but with smaller trips and grazes we tried to brush it off and not make a big deal of the situation.
My eldest is starting to get a bit stubborn with wanting any type of first aid; he recently had an inch long splinter in the palm of his hand and didn’t want it covering at all. I think, however, that this summer we may have more luck with covering the slightly larger cuts or grazes to prevent them getting infected thanks to these super cool plasters from Elastoplast. With characters and objects printed onto the plasters from the smash hit films Frozen and Star Wars I am bound to have more willing children when it comes to first aid!
